Wachovia NEXT Award for Community Impact

Opportunity Finance Network

Cooperative Federal was one of just six community development financial institutions (CDFI) from across the nation to be honored with a 2008 Wachovia NEXT Award. The awards, announced at the 2008 Opportunity Finance Network (OFN) Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, are among the most prestigious awards for responsible lending in the U.S.

School/Community Partnership Best Practice Award (2008)

The NYS Rehabilitation Association awarded this honor to the Syracuse City School District, for the third consecutive year, for the Life Skills Program. Cooperative Federal is a lead partner and co-creator in that project.

2008 Desjardins Award for Youth Financial Education - First Place

Credit Union Association of New York

Each year the Credit Union Association of New York awards the Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award for excellence in youth financial education. Cooperative Federal was honored with this award in 2008, in recognition of our innovative Youth Life Skills program and partnerships.

In 2007, Cooperative Federal was honored with the prestigious Excellence in Lending Award from the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), in the low- to modest-means asset category.

2006 Dora Maxwell Award for Social Responsibility – First Place

New York State Credit Union League and Affiliates

Cooperative Federal is being recognized for our innovative mortgage and homeownership programming. Our homeownership services include educational workshops and specially designed products for families of modest means and first-time homebuyers, including families recently arrived in the U.S.

2006 “Partners in Learning” Organization Service Award

West Side Learning Center Community Education Program

Cooperative Federal is recognized for our collaboration with the West Side Learning Center to “provide our community’s diverse ethno-linguistic adults with practical internship experiences and employment opportunities.” We offer employment and internship opportunities to new English speakers, and provide member services in English and Spanish.

Received “in recognition of outstanding marketing efforts that effectively serve all segments of [our] membership.” Cooperative Federal’s marketing materials are bilingual, English and Spanish, and are informative, useful and widely available to all.

Received “for dedication, commitment and effort devoted to improving the Syracuse Community.” Cooperative Federal has partnered with Home HeadQuarters to provide affordable homeownership opportunities in our community, through our Urban Homestead program and general homeownership products and education.

2003 The Learning Place Award

The Learning Place

Given “In appreciation to the Cooperative Federal for their time and talent to further the goals of The Learning Place.” The Learning Place provides adult literacy programs to the community, along with one-on-one tutoring, basic computer training and GED classes, and we have partnered with them to offer financial literacy classes to their students.

2001 Excellence in Small Business

U.S. Small Business Administration and City of Syracuse Office of Economic Development

We were recognized during Small Business Week for our general success. Primarily, this means providing financial services in communities with few responsible financial institutions. Through all of our efforts, we strive to counteract the effects of racial, gender, and economic discrimination to provide sound financial services to all.
