The Credit Union is seeking volunteers for our Financial Education program. Volunteering is a great way to gain teaching experience, and to learn more about finance in the process.

English - General Workshop Teaching
-Qualifications: Interest in personal finance topics. Teaching experience helpful, but not required.
-Volunteer Position Description: Teach workshops on basic financial literacy. Cooperative Federal will provide easy to learn curriculum and materials for workshops, will set up times and locations, and will provide on-site helpers. Current workshops include Money Smart and Credit Union Member Services. Workshops occur about once every couple of months. Quarterly Money Smart courses are generally once a week for five to eight sessions. Training and assistance provided by Keierra, Financial Education VISTA.
-Training: Come into the office to learn curriculum and review classroom materials. Keierra will accompany volunteer for their first teaching experiences, help with everything in the classroom.
Training Time: 3:00 hrs/class. Class Time: 2:00 hrs/class.
English - Special Knowledge Workshop Teaching
-Qualifications: Special knowledge in an area related to finance. Teaching experience strongly recommended, but not required.
-Volunteer Position Description: Teach workshops in your specific area of interest or expertise. Cooperative Federal will provide resources and support for developing and implementing curriculum where needed. We are looking for new topics, for example relating to investment, Internet business, macroeconomics, etc. Other examples of what we currently offer (and don’t need volunteers for) include business workshops such as Retail 101, Marketing on a Shoestring and Legal Issues for Small Businesses, and general workshops such as Recordkeeping and Buying a Home Together. Workshops would generally occur semi-annually or quarterly, or according to the volunteer’s availability. Training and assistance provided by Keierra, Financial Education VISTA as needed.
-Training: 1 hour meeting with Keierra to help prepare for the workshop and make any necessary adaptations for the credit union audience. Additional training depends upon volunteer’s experience. May require no training if the volunteer has a lot of experience teaching their specific workshop.
Training Time: 1:00 hrs/class. Class Time: 2:00 hrs/class.
Program Recordkeeping
-Qualifications: Knowledge of Microsoft Access desirable, but not necessary.
-Volunteer Position Description: Help maintain files and databases for our financial education program. This involves filing paperwork for workshops and courses that we complete and entering relevant information into a computer database. Training and assistance provided by Keierra, Financial Education VISTA.
-Training: Come into the office and learn the database/filing system.
Training Time: 1:30 hrs. Volunteer Time: flexible
Spanish - Workshop Help
-Qualifications: Native or fully fluent Spanish speaker
-Volunteer Position Description: Attend financial education workshops in Spanish and assist the teacher, who speaks Spanish as a second language. The teacher will lead the presentation, and the assistant will be there to help field questions and maintain the flow of the presentation if there are terms the teacher does not know. Current workshops include Credit Repair and Home Ownership. Workshops occur about once every six weeks. Training and assistance provided by Keierra, Financial Education VISTA.
-Training: In the office - discuss what it’s all about and what’s expected of the volunteer. We will review the subject material for the class and meet the teachers.
Training Time: 1:00 hr/class. Class Time: 2:00 hrs/class
Spanish - General Workshop Teaching
-Qualifications: Fluent Spanish speaker. Interest in personal finance topics. Teaching experience is helpful, but not required.
-Volunteer Position Description: Teach workshops on basic financial literacy in Spanish. Cooperative Federal will train you to teach the classes, provide the easy-to-learn curriculum and materials for workshops, coordinate times and locations, and will provide on-site helpers.
Current workshops that you may lead include Financial English, Credit Union Member Services, and our general financial education course, Money Smart. Workshops occur about once every month and a half. Infrequent Money Smart courses are generally held once a week for five to eight weeks. Training and assistance provided by Keierra, Financial Education VISTA.
-Training: Come in to the office to learn curriculum. This is about 3:00 hrs per workshop. Keierra, Financial Education Program VISTA, will accompany volunteer for their first teaching experiences and help with everything in the classroom.
